Gentlemen, just a quick reminder that all the material here is pulled from the Personal Image System. The Personal Image System is my master level course I offered it a few times a year.
This system is built off of decades of research and development. I also pull in my experience having helped thousands of men dress better as a custom clothier.
I also pull in my science background so we got this whole science of style section.
Gentlemen, the Personal Image System is action-oriented. It’s got an amazing community that has live training, a hundred plus lessons with resource materials, body language, etiquette, manners, buy list. It has video, audio, scripts out there that you can follow as to how to up your style and make it simple. Go check it out, you’re not going to be disappointed.
To learn more about the Personal Image System, simply type into Google, it will pop up or go over to RealMenRealStyle.com and it will have a banner right there for you or you can just click and learn more about the Personal Image System.
All right. So, let’s talk about style equations that make men’s fashion simple. Let me give you a little bit of a back story. So, I have a science background, I went to a small Liberal Arts school in Iowa called Cornell College and I was always drawn, I read science news as a kid, I actually enjoyed just the simplicity of mathematics, of science of how things were set up and it just made sense versus when I got into this world of custom clothing and fashion, a lot of the stuff did not make sense.
Guys, to this day, I still don’t really understand runways. However, I realized that this is something I wanted to take and I wanted to make it accessible to the guy who things, you know, he’s like things need to be practical, they need to – I need to be able to put it together and for it to make logical sense. So that was my idea when I put together these style equations.
The Personal Image Formula
Now, if you want more and you want to actually see the equations, videos will be diving into this, I’ve got a free course and I’ll link to that in the show notes. But, this comes out of my personal image formula which is part of the Personal Image System and this is called The Seven Equations that Make Men’s Fashion Simple.
I’m not going to be able to get into all the equations right here, but hopefully I’m going to get you excited, I’m going to build that hunger so that you’re going to go out there and you’re going to look for it and you’ll go through the free training which actually does go over all seven of the equations.
So, how did I put these together? Actually, I took equations that I knew and then I apply them oftentimes out of the School of Economics. I also pulled some, you know, I’ll let you guys let me know you can feel free if you’ve got a science background, you can send me a quick note and let me know what you thought about this.
So, the first one I start off with is what I call the Timeless Style Equation. And, I start off with this one because I feel it really is a foundational equation, if a man understands this he’s going to go far. And, basically the equation is TS=FIx FUxFA and I just realized that the FU does sound pretty funny, but when you see it on the equation it doesn’t seem like I’m actually telling somebody off. But, the point is is timeless style equals fit x function x fabric. So, let me explain what each of those mean.
Fit, this is basically how well does your clothing fit your body. And that’s important because a lot of times people think that fit like I’m a size medium, not really.
We are, you know, we’re not defined by one truly size, all of us have unique bodies and what I try to help guys understand are their measurements and then finding the clothing no matter how it’s labeled that best fits and suits your body which is another important part, understanding that if you’re a broad man or if you’re a thin man that actually the way the clothing fits is you going to be a little bit different because usually if you’re a bit thicker, you’re going to want maybe a little bit of extra movement or you’re going to want to have that clothing so that it gives you a little bit of freedom of movement in different areas.
Next, I talk about function. And, function is the level of appropriateness and practically of the clothing based on a given situation, so I know that’s a little bit of a mouthful. But, basically how does your clothing actually serve you. The last one is fabric. And, what do I mean by fabric? I mean actually the quality of the materials, the craftsmanship, and everything that goes into actually what goes into that particular garment.
So, notice this is a multiple occasion – equation, it’s fit x function x fabric and, as you guys know in math, if you’re going to throw a zero into there, what happens? We get a zero across the board and that is a key point I want you to take because you can have something that fits you right, you can have something that function, actually, it is serving the right function, but if it is horribly made, if it is just falling apart, if it is poorly made from really cheap materials, you could possibly score a zero on the fabric and therefore, you’re not going to be stylish. You will not – this is not timeless style.
And that’s the key with this is that they work with each other and you’ve got to also if you know your mathematics if you are to take 10 x 10 x 10, what do we get? 1,000. But take that still that 10 x 10 x 1, what do you get? 100. So, literally if you ignore, let’s say you ignore the fit, but you really knock it out of the part with the function, you’re perfect with the fabric. So, you got 10s over there, but because you had a 1 in the fit, you actually are only at one-tenth of where you could be in the total timeless style equation.
So, the points I’m making here guys is that style isn’t tied to one thing, it’s actually tied to three things which I – they are pretty general and we could expand on this a bit. But, they all are interrelated and once a guy realizes, wow, I’m already nailing it on the fit, I’m pretty much nailing it on the function. If I actually started to upgrade the fabric, I can – I can really increase my level of style to a much higher level point. Make sense? Guys, again, go check out the free course I’ve got the equation played out I’ve got a solid video there for you and I really tried to – this is one of the most important part of all – when I talk about all those style equations.
Equation number two is the style law of fit. So, immediately, you know, when I talked about that timeless style equation, you may be saying, Antonio, what’s more important, fit, function or fabric? I lay that out here and I show that fit is actually more important than function and function is more important than fabric.
Why Does This Matter?
Because we live in a world of finite resources, most of us only have so much money. So, you’re going to make a determination, am I going to go with that $1,000 suit or am I going to go with that $200 or $300 suit which I can afford and, I can actually afford to spend $50 to take it to a tailor to get it adjusted.
Now, unfortunately oftentimes when you spend $1,000 or $1,500 on a suit, you get free tailoring with that, not necessarily unfortunately, that’s just the way business works. But, when you buy – you can still look great and you can still really score high on the timeless style equation if actually you do buy an inexpensive suit, but you nailed that fit, you’re able to get it modified and so, maybe you get a 5 and 5 and 5 going across, so a 125 score there.
Not, you know, it definitely could be improved, but if you focus in on that fit first, that’s where I want you to zero in your resources. So, it’s better to probably score an 8 on that fit and then a 5 and a 5.
Does that make, you know, so hopefully for those you guys that are right-brained that are, you know, very logical, it’s like, oh, okay. So, focus on first on the fit, then you want to make sure it fits the function and then focus in on the fabric. So, key point there guys, fit is number one.
Now, the last equation I’m going to cover here is the style theory of value. So, more, you know, and guys, again, free course cover more, but if you get these three down, I think you’re going to be ahead of most people. So, the style theory of value and this one is a little bit confusing, but value is equal to the number of wears times how it makes you feel divided by the price. Key point I want you to take from this is that value does not equal price.
So, what do I mean by this? Let me explain this, if you go out there and you buy $1000 suit and you wear it a hundred times which you should actually when you get a classic piece of clothing that you enjoy, makes you feel great like a suit of armor. And, if you wear that a hundred times over the next let’s say ten years because great classic style items will last the test – will stand up to the test of time the fashion doesn’t change too much in men’s style. So, hey, get something classic dark-colored notched lapels it fits you great, you get a hundred wears, how many – what was the cost per wear? $10 versus let’s say you go to the – ah, I’m not going to – I’m not going to bash any company.
So, let’s just say you get something that fits you horribly, makes you look like a square box and you spend – let’s make it easy, you spend $100 on it. You wear that once to maybe you wear it to your daughter’s wedding and you felt uncomfortable or you wear it to a buddy’s wedding and you never want to wear that thing again. You wear that one time, that was $100 per wear. Think about it, you actually do – do this when you rent a tux or you rent a suit or something like that.
Now, guys, which was the better value? In my opinion you should have save up your money, gotten a suit that, yeah, cost you $1,000, but every time you wore it you felt like million bucks and, it only cost you $10 per wear. And I know guys that get – that wear their suits more than a hundred times because they love them so much, they have a job that they can wear it to almost, you know, every single day and they’re wearing that suit at least once a week so they’re wearing it fifty times a year over a period of five years two hundred and fifty times $4 per wear and they feel great every time.
What this frees you to do is to think of clothing and not be always trying to save maybe that $50 or that $100 there, but to think about, you know, I would rather hold off save up a bit more, get exactly what I want because it makes me feel good when I wear those shoes that don’t squeak that look great and age over time.
There are pictures of, I think it was – I think it’s Prince – Prince Harry or maybe his brother, I can’t remember his brother’s name. But, you see these guys that basically money is not a – Prince Charles actually, their father. He has certain pairs of shoes that he’s worn for twenty years.
Now, here’s the guy that’s not hurting for money, yet why is he wearing the same pair of shoes for twenty years because he loves them because they feel great because they actually look better over time.
So, that’s when you also know and that’s one of the things I love about men’s wear for key items like shoes, like bags, like suits, things that are going to cost you a bit more like a great tie. These can last you decades if taken care of especially those bags and this, I mean you get a great, you know, a great leather bag or a brief case, you could pass that on to your son.
I think there’s a company called Saddleback, their logo or their motto is your kids will fight over it when their dead. I mean I just love that part of men’s wear when you start to realize that you start to look into the craftsmanship. You’re all of a sudden willing to pay more for the function for the fabric for that build quality because you’re like, oh, you know, I start to get this. So, notice how these equations build off each other, notice how they all interact.
Now, guys I didn’t even cover half of what I covered in that free training, so go check it out. I’m going to have it in the – in the show notes here. But, my goal with this podcast is always to excite you to get you hungry for more because guys once you go down the slope you’re going to be able to take that, you know, you’ve already spend $100,000 on your education, why not spend couple of thousand dollars to actually better show off that education by coming off and appearing as the man you know yourself to be.
